Britten Stables

The Britten Stables, a stunning architectural project, was recently recognised as Joint Winner of the Domestic Restored and Saved Heritage Award 2021, and even featured on the popular TV series, Grand Designs. Originally built 120 years ago as the stables for the Monavale Lodge, the building was later converted into a home and workshop by the renowned motorcycle designer, John Britten.

After sustaining significant damage in the Christchurch earthquakes, the home was initially deemed irreparable by the insurance company. However, the family turned to their team of consultants, who took on the task of extensive repairs and modernising the dwelling. The result is a breathtaking space that provides a modern and comfortable home for a young family.

In addition to the restoration of the original building, we also designed a New York-style loft garage and studio apartment, which provides an exquisite space for guests to enjoy the stunning surroundings.
